Lorna Radbourne - Catriona Glass
Lorna has been a favourite of the gallery almost as long as she has been participating in our exhibitions and regularly helps hang our exhibitions and window displays. Flights of Fancy is her first solo exhibition for us and is ideally named as Lorna has allowed her inspiration to take her to some amazing places.
Having worked in stained glass for 30 years making traditional and contemporary windows (including one for St Chad’s College, Durham University), indoor and outdoor sculptural pieces , hangings, jewellery and paints in mixed media. Lorna has excelled for this exhibition; she’s still working on a showstopper piece a wood and glass clock with one of her regular collaborators Andy Claydon of Sylvan Wood Design. She has some “cartoon style” impressions inspired by Marc Chagall’s windows in Tudeley, Kent following a recent visit. We have a crow covered gate and a selection of her indoor sculptures with a smattering of garden pieces ranging in size. Her latest glass work includes her kiln fired painted glass pieces, with a very special portrait she’s been working on with indeterminate kiln firings to build the layers. This collection sees an extraordinary range of glass work not to be missed.
In recent years she has enjoyed working in watercolour and acrylics. A collection featuring watercolours of native Scots animals was born during isolation due to covid, with recent additions including a wonderful work of black faced sheep. For this exhibition she has also created a new collection of acrylic paintings inspired by her visits to Barra, Cuil and more. These works evoke a feeling of relaxation and summer with their bright beach scenes although some do include the more intemperate Scottish weather with moody scenes.
Lorna regularly participates in events across Scotland, ArTay in Perth, Perthshire Open Studios, Strathmore Open Studios, Connections – Scottish Glass Society in Glasgow. She also runs an exhibition in Perthshire for herself and 20 or so fellow artisans. This year she’s completing a 30 square foot stained glass commission alongside some smaller commissions.
Lorna offers a variety of Stained glass workshops between April and October at her garden studio in Dunning, from 1-2days creating garden art, leaded or copper foiled panels , stepping stones , seasonal wreaths and more.
Many of Lorna's pieces can be flat packed for shipping, so do email us to find out about shipping anything you are interested in.
