We don't have everything in the gallery online. If you've seen an item in the gallery that isn't online just email me and I can make arrangements for you. Some items need to be collected but it clearly shows that in the item description.

Jenny Charles

Jennie Charles

Before moving to Blair Atholl 6 years ago, Jenny worked successfully for over 25 years as a potter in the New Forest, Hampshire. Her training was actually in Fine Art {Sculpture} with a preference for using clay. Jenny's approach to clay is still more as a sculptor than a potter.

She predominantly uses a white firing clay as it is both sympathetic to her glaze and the marks she make. A variety of methods and construction techniques are used, often combining different techniques on the same piece.

The interaction of both the elements and man on the shaping of the landscape is at the heart of Jenny's inspiration. Function is not a primary concern as her desire is that the work is beyond clay and glaze. Form comes first and then the focus is in surface decoration and texture.

As the work is hand-built, so each piece has a subtle quality that shows the influence of the maker. The nature of the glaze also means that no two pieces, even when similar in form, will ever be the same.
